Metro Gryphons Capture the Hamilton Cup

Thursday, July 31, 2025

After splitting the first two games of the best of three series, the Metro Gryphons and Valley Thunder put it all on the line Wednesday in search of their first Hamilton Cup (Jr B) Championship.  Game three was hosted at the Apple Dome in front of a packed house awaiting the fireworks.  The fans didn't have to wait too long as the Thunder opened the scoring 30 second into the game with a goal from Kylian Holloway his 6th of the playoffs getting the Thunder out to an early lead which they were unable to do in Game #2.  The lead was short lived when the gryphons rattled off 3 unanswered goals and closing out the first period 3-2 for the Gryphons.

The second was a physical affair which the Gryphons extended their lead to 5 -2, with goals from Griffin Giles and Cohen Hickey.  The Thunder opened the 3rd on a power play and responded quickly with a goal from Caleb Rutt from Kylian Holloway bring the lead within 2.  The Thunder continued the press, but Gryphons goalie Fionn Kelly was up to the task in holding the lead while the Gryphons added 3 more to finish off the Thunder 8-4 and capture the Hamilton Cup.

The Thunder were led by Kylian Holloway who had 2 goals and assist, while Caleb Rutt and Alex Wenckowski also added goals.  The Gryphons were led by Brody Boyd-Cunningham (3 goals, 1 assist) and Griffin Giles (1 goal, 3 assists) recorded 4 points each.  Cameron Bradbury, Blake Demill, Health Boliver and Cohen Hickey also added goals for the Gryphons.  Gryphons goalie Foinn Kelly outduel Qwentyn Wentzell with 44 saves on the night.
